The Institute for Development Studies (IDS), established in 1965 as part of the then University of East Africa, is a multi-disciplinary research organization focusing on development issues and application of research findings to national policy and post-graduate teaching; to foster collaboration with institutions with similar objectives elsewhere; to provide facilities that enhance intellectual exchange and collaboration among scholars; to network with and provide training, professional, advisory and consultancy services to the public and private development actors.
